Salter HealthCare is pleased to announce that Aberjona Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was recently awarded a perfect score on their Annual Survey by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Located at 184 Swanton Street in Winchester, MA, the Aberjona Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is a 123-bed, skilled nursing facility that specializes in short-term rehabilitation as well as traditional long-term nursing services.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health performs unannounced evaluations of health care facilities every nine to fifteen months to assess compliance with state and federal regulations. The survey examines a myriad of quality, safety and performance issues, including medication management, cleanliness, environmental safety, administrative effectiveness and respect for the rights and dignity of patients. With the ever more demanding regulations for Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing facilities, it is significant for facilities like Aberjona to achieve a perfect survey.
Aberjona’s post-acute rehabilitation program provides care focused on helping patients regain the ability to live independently in their community. The Aberjona Center offers physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapies daily. Their Social Work team works closely with patients to help with adjustment issues and assesses whether or not the patient will require home care services when released.
Aberjona recently introduced its Transition Program, which is designed for patients who are waiting to be discharged from the Center but who are not fully ready to live independently again. Patients stay in the Transition Suite which has features designed to simulate the patient’s home environment. While transitioning, the patient remains under the care and supervision of Aberjona’s experienced interdisciplinary clinical team.
Special amenities also available to short-term rehab patients at Aberjona include updated private rooms, in-room telephones and flat screen televisions with cable service, WiFi, free parking, hairdressing/barber services, an emergency call system, and common spaces for social activities.

In addition to achieving a perfect score this year, Aberjona also received a five-star rating from the Federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for overall performance in health inspections, nurse staffing, and quality of health care.
