Aberjona, Winchester & Woburn Receive Highest Quality Measure by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Salter HealthCare, one of Massachusetts’s most trusted leaders in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, today announced that all three of their centers, Aberjona, Winchester and Woburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Centers, have been awarded a 5-Star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest possible rating nursing facilities can receive.
The CMS 5-Star Quality Rating System assigns nursing facilities nationwide with a rating between one and five stars, an important guide in determining placement of a patient or for employment. Those with five stars are considered to have superior quality compared to other nursing facilities. Ratings are based on health inspections, quality measures, staffing levels compiled from each community’s annual Massachusetts Department of Public Health survey inspections over the past three years, the average number of hours of care provided to each resident by a member of the Nursing Department, and more than 10 physical and clinical measures.
Earlier this year, CMS added six new quality measures, the most since 2003, making it even more difficult for nursing facilities nationwide to achieve a 5-star rating. These include resident re-hospitalization rates, emergency room use and community discharge designed to ensure patients are receiving the best possible care.
