Salter HealthCare, one of Massachusetts’s most trusted leaders in providing rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, today announced that their Aberjona, Woburn and Winchester Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Centers have been selected by U.S. News & World Report as some of the best nursing centers in America in their newly released Best Nursing Homes for 2017/2018 for the second straight year.
Following an evaluation of over 15,000 facilities nationwide, Salter communities have joined an elite list representing about 15% of all communities nationwide, a decrease of 41% over last year’s list. Just 72 other facilities of the 401 nursing homes across Massachusetts were selected for this designation.

Facilities were evaluated based on a number of criteria including the availability of appropriate rehabilitation services, care, safety, health inspections, staffing and consistent performance across all national quality measures. In addition, the ratings relied on data from Nursing Home Compare, a program run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that sets and enforces standards for nursing homes. To qualify as a Best Nursing Home this year, facilities had to earn an average of 4.5 stars or better during the 12 months of federal reports ending in October 2017 and had to consistently meet certain performance standards set by U.S. News during the period, such as earning at least 4 stars in the CMS overall rating for all 12 months.
